2 National Guard Members Killed In Jefferson Co. Crash [READ ACCIDENT REPORT]

Jefferson County, FL -The accident happen on I-10 Sunday night in Jefferson County the near mile marker 226 and Monticello exit. Two National Guard members were trying to help a driver who had swerved into the median.

Tech Sergeant David Stone of the Air National Guard and Captain Tecari Cznarnecki of the Amy National Guard were headed west bound on I-10 around 7:00p.m. in a military civilian vehicle when one of the tires blew out.

That caused another car to swerve into the median. Stone and Czarnecki pulled the military vehicle over and walked back to check on the driver. That's when another car headed west bound had to swerve and struck Stone and Czarnecki.

They were both taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where they later died.

The two were members of the 44th Civil Support Team from Camp Blanding and were headed to Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy for Training with local enforcement.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash at this time. Colleagues of the Tallahassee National Guard said they plan to hold a memorial service for Stone and Czarnecki in Tallahassee soon.

Update 9-9-13

Florida Highway Patrol has released the names of two pedestrians killed when they stopped to assist a driver in a grass median on I-10 in Jefferson County Sunday night. 30-year-old David Stone and Tecari Czarnecki died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital from their injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that drove onto the median - 22-year-old Shiv Patel - sustained minor injuries. Charges are pending

One person is dead and another injured after they were struck by a vehicle on I-10 in Jefferson County Sunday evening.

The accident happened just after 7 p.m. A military convoy was headed westbound when a tire blew out causing a passenger car to swerve. After the initial accident, two members of the convoy walked toward the other vehicle to check on the driver.

A different car, approaching the scene, tried to avoid debris, when it drove into the grass median and hit the two victims. Both were taken to a hospital where one of the victims died according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP will release more information once the investigation is complete.
