Associated Press Release
MIAMI (AP) -- Miami-Dade detectives say women are being targeted by thieves who are burglarizing vehicles parked at gyms, parks and day care centers.
The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/17SMjFy ) reports the ring has been operating at least since July.
On July 12, thieves took a victim's identification and checkbooks from a vehicle parked at Westwind Park in west Miami-Dade County. Officers say they got about $2,000 from that victim.
Police say the ring works like this. Suspects write a check made out to cash from one victim and go to the bank of another victim. There, a female accomplice who resembles the person on the identification from the second burglary, goes through the drive-thru and cashes the check.
Authorities ask anyone with information to contact them.
