11th Reprieve for Convicted Cop Killer

Clarence Hill won an 11th hour reprieve from the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday night just minutes before his scheduled execution.

Hill was already strapped to the gurney when the temporary stay was issued. Hill was sentenced to die more than 20 years ago for the 1982 slaying of a Pensacola policeman.

The high court agreed to consider whether the chemicals Florida uses to kill inmates cause pain and violate the constitutional ban on cruel and inhumane punishment.

Oral arguments aren't scheduled till the end of April, so it will likely be summer before justices issue an opinion.
