Gadsden County deputies are getting a crash course in gang activity. Deputies are now seeing an increase in gang symbols around the county, and are now vigilant in putting a stop to this trend.
Deputies are also keeping track of new gangs, or problems that seem to arise with rival groups.
Gangs seem to be in the forefront in Leon County as well. Deputies are now confiscating backpacks and folders from students with gang logos. Authorities believe gang members are now moving to the Big Bend area and are recruiting new members.
Deputies say the goal is to nip this activity in the bud so as to prevent the area becoming like inner cities where gangs are dominating the streets. One way is to teach resource officers and school officials to look for gang-related indicators like rags and groups wearing the same clothing.
