Utility Help on the Way

Tallahassee city commissioners are moving forward with two utility programs to help cut the costs for its customers. Commissioners agree to match charitable contributions to "Project Share,” a utility assistance program bringing in $50,000 every year.

Also approved was a pilot program using 1,000 programmable thermostats to help customers manage costs.

Commissioners say they want more ideas on how to use $10 million from the rate stabilization fund.

Reese Goad, Tallahassee Utility and Accounting Administrator, says, “We really want to get the maximum use of our dollars for all of our customers, and we'll come back with even more information so we can discuss it further."

Goad says they'll be back before the commission in two weeks with a plan.
