Just six weeks after taking the helm at Florida State, T.K. Wetherell has to scale another hurdle.
Wetherell announced late Monday afternoon that he has prostate cancer and will need to take a few weeks off to undergo treatment.
Wetherell says doctors discovered the cancer during his annual check up when a blood test revealed an elevated PSA count.
A statement from FSU says the cancer appears to be isolated and has not spread.
Wetherell will undergo more tests but expects to be out of the office for two to three weeks for treatment and recovery.
Provost Larry Abele will assume the president's duties during Wetherell's absence.
