The North Florida Cosmetology Institute is putting away the scissors for one day to help raise money for a friend in need.
About 100 people were expected to give blood during Thursday's benefit to help 23-year-old Ashley Skidmore. She was diagnosed with leukemia in October and is waiting on a bone marrow transplant.
With her health on the line, her friends and classmates at the institute in Tallahassee are taking action. They organized a bake sale and blood drive to help Ashley in her fight.
Lori Allen, a friend, says, "She got sick in October and she was really close, a really good person, fun to be around, and we just wanted to do what we could to help her."
Allen says Skidmore is scheduled for her bone marrow transplant February 6 in Houston.
