If you bought a new house in 2005, keep in mind you must file your homestead exemption by March 1.
To assist Leon County homeowners with filing, the county property appraiser's office is setting up stations throughout the county.
One location in the Tallahassee Mall will be open every Saturday in February from 10 until 3. Some homeowners may be eligible for over $500 in tax savings.
Bert Hartsfield, the Leon County property appraiser, says, "You file the original year, there after if you've had no change in home ownership then you maintain the same exemption from the year before, but if you do purchase a new home you need to make sure you contact our office."
If you have any questions or need more information on filing, you can call the Leon County property appraiser's office at 850-488-6102.
