After being show dozens of social security numbers available to anyone on the Internet, the state division of corporations has physically inspected more than 30,000 documents to make sure the information was not being given out.

Until last year, it was legal for the division to collect and publish the numbers. Now the division no longer collects the personal identifying number.

Division director Jay Kassees is now asking anyone who has ever filed a document with the state division of corporations to inspect the document on line. If you find your social security still publicly available, you can call the state division of corporations at 850-488-9000.

The Web site to check for your information is www.sunbiz.org.
