The veteran teacher who's been shaping the minds of children for more than 30 years has been selected "teacher of the year."
Gadsden County native Doris Black was overcome with emotions as the superintendent surprised her with flowers and a balloon after being recognized as this year's teacher of the year.
Former teacher of the year recipients were also on hand for the announcement. For Black, this honor was a dream come true.
Doris Black says, "I would like to keep doing what I'm doing for those people who need help like the beginning teachers. I need to just share what I have for children and my community. This is where I grew up, so I have to give back."
Black says this is the first time in her career that she's been chosen for this honor.
