"Lock before you leave." That's the message coming from the Tallahassee Police Department.
As spring break approaches law enforcement officers are reminding college students to take extra precautions before leaving town. During 2004-2005, police saw a 400 percent increase in "no-force" entries.
McGhin says, “Make sure you know who is the last person to leave. Have that person check to make sure doors and windows are locked. We've had instances in the past where one roommate thought the other was still there and they left and left the door unlocked."
McGhin says there are criminals who simply walk from car to car checking for unlocked doors. She says to remember crime is often based on opportunity.
