Florida health officials say the identities of organ and tissue donors may have been exposed.
Officials with the Agency for Health Care Administrations (AHCA) say a computer flaw may have exposed the Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. Officials say this potentially allowed unauthorized users to view the names, addresses, birth dates and driver license numbers of approximately 55-thousand donors.
Social Security numbers were also included in the database.
AHCA Spokesperson, Doc Kokol, said, "It really was one of those instances where people who had the right to access the data registered users were able to return to the database without logging back in again. As soon as we found the flaw, we fixed it."
AHCA officials say they don't believe anyone's information has been used, but anyone with concerns can check their credit reports to be certain or request a credit alert. To find out how, you can go AHCA's website: http://www.fdhc.state.fl.us/.
