Local Cops Get High-Tech Training

Being prepared for the unexpected is a requirement for all law enforcement agencies. And to help stay prepared, one local agency turned to technology to train its officers.

Officers in Lake Park actually had to worry about getting shot while trying to complete their high tech training exercise. They use an interactive theater, where an officer armed with a gun responds to what he sees on a screen.

To make the experience even more realistic, a gun rests above the screen and shoots plastic balls when the people on the screen pull their triggers.

Lake Park Police Chief Bert Rutland said this training is very valuable for his officers. He said, "When a person has been through these scenarios before, he has a better understanding how and what to expect and how to react."

Officers say the training is so beneficial because the suspects can actually fire a weapon at them.
