Volunteers process the claims and forms needed for the military to allow the leave.
The number of armed forces personnel taking time off has significantly increased since 9/11, but the Red Cross is running low on the volunteers needed to work the extended leave cases.
Marvis Day, a Red Cross volunteer, says, "It's very important that these people get home, especially if its a death, sometimes it's illness, someone in the family sick, and they have to get here.”
Workers are needed for the night and weekend shifts. If you'd like to help, call Capital Area Red Cross at 850-878-6080.
