Three hundred fifty Leon County elementary school students will most likely have to attend a new school next year. Parents of Brevard Elementary were officially hearing the news from school officials Wednesday night.
Brevard is half under capacity. School officials cite an influx of college students in the area as reasons for the closure. Students and staff will be assigned to other nearby schools.
Some parents worry a change of school could hurt their child's performance.
Adrienne Riggins, a parent, says, "Now for one year I have to uproot him, get a whole new set of teachers used to him and then uproot him again to middle school."
The plan is to use the old Brevard building for Sail High School. The school board will make a final decision on the closure at a March 28 board meeting.
