Nurses Blame Doctors for Nursing Shortage

Officials with the Florida Nurses Association say the doctors and their lobbyists in Tallahassee are constantly trying to expand their slice of the health care pie, leaving nurses with the crumbs.

Barbara Lumpkin of the Florida Nurses Association says, “Money is the mother’s milk of health policy, or politics and all that we do here. So there are turf protections and economic protections, but we are on the verge of perhaps reaching some mutually acceptable solutions.”

Officials at the Florida Medical Association deny the nurses' accusations. They say the changes they are seeking are for reasons of health and safety, not money.
