Florida's Teachers Angry Over Senate Vote

A state Senate committee has voted 6-3 along party lines to strip teachers of their ability to pay their union dues by payroll deduction.

The measure singles out teachers and does not affect other unions. Florida Education Association President Maureen Dinnen says the vote is nothing but political payback for supporting the democratic gubernatorial candidate.

"It's a bold faced political retribution because we chose to back a candidate that we thought was going to help quality education and it's saying the teachers of Florida should have no voice in the political world in the state of Florida,” Dinnen says.

As many as 120,000 Florida school employees may be affected.
