Expanding a Program to Save Money

In the Sunshine State, a taxpayer's watchdog group says Florida could save a lot of education dollars if it expanded a popular corporate tax break.

The corporate income tax for scholarship programs allows companies to help low-income students in return for tax credits.

Students get to use the scholarships like vouchers to go to private schools or other public schools in their area.

About 15,000 students are enrolled in the program.

"If this program did not exist my children will not be able to attend, what I call a higher education. I greatly thank the scholarship program and I pray that you expand the program so other children can use the services,” says mother Regina Brooks.

Florida's tax watch group says the program has saved the state $228-million in education funding.
