Florida Legislators Introduce New Smoking Bill

A bill some health groups fear will weaken Florida’s anti-smoking laws is advancing at the capitol.

The Senate cleared a bill to implement a smoking ban in the work place. The bill would exempt bars that make up to 30 percent of their sales in food. It would also provide exemptions for other types of businesses not included in the amendment voters passed.

The American Lung Association is angry.

"There's some fraternal organizations that work very closely with kids and all of a sudden they'll be allowed to smoke around these kids and we're very, very concerned about the additional exemptions,” says Brenda Olsen of the American Lung Association.

A similar bill in the house would exempt bars that make only 20 percent of their sales on food.
