The teachers of the year for 2005 and 2006 and finalists for the award had lunch Friday at the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee.
Teachers were honored for their efforts to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities.
The 2006 teacher of the year says it’s all about working closely with parents to bring out the best in their kids.
“I think that parents are so important in the lives of children, developed in that partnership with the parents and the teacher and the child. When you do that and you work with the parents, you can have success with the children,” says Teacher of the Year Samuel Bennett.
Bennett and the 2005 Teacher of the Year, Kerri Walukiewicz of Saint Lucie County each received $1,000 check.
Other finalists for 2006 included Kathy Corder of Leon County and Kathy Ann Kreidler of Taylor County.
