More than four hundred families laced up their sneakers for the Inaugural Asthma Walk in Tallahassee.

They are blowing the whistle on asthma, hundreds of them to help find a cure. Residents gathered at Southwood in Tallahassee for the 5K Asthma Walk.

It's the first time the American Cancer Society has held the event in the Big Bend region.

The purpose is to raise money for Asthma education and research.

"There is a real epidemic," said Sandy Stevens, Asthma Walk coordinator," the number one reason kids are out of school is because of asthma."

Research shows Asthma rates have doubled among youth and its cause is still unknown.
