In Florida alone, 88 people die everyday from smoking tobacco, and as part of a national campaign to fight youth smoking students in Tallahassee and all over the country are kicking butts.
Wednesday at Godby High School student leaders displayed 88 shoes to represent the number of Floridians killed everyday from using tobacco products.
Because many tobacco companies target young consumers, SWAT students say they're trying to make a positive influence in their peers' lives.
"A lot of my generation, they've fallen off from these tobacco products and I just want to emphasize and impact people’s lives and let them know you don't have to be a statistic. You can be your own individual without using these products and without being influenced easily," said senior and SWAT member Nikitta Forbes.
Forbes says their work is not done. The group has several more events planned throughout the prom and graduation season to make sure students are celebrating safely.
