Florida Supreme Court Reverses Abortion Ruling

The 1997 law requires doctors to obtain informed consent from women seeking abortions; including letting them know the age of the fetus, before performing the procedure.

A women’s clinic sued on the grounds the act violates a woman’s right to privacy and two lower courts agreed but the high court did not, and Gov. Jeb Bush applauded the decision.

“I think that’s a good thing. Women ought to be given the options available to them before they make that decision. And I’m not sure what the basis of the overturning of the appellate court ruling is, but I’m very pleased,” said Gov. Bush.

A spokeswoman for Florida Planned Parenthood says the group is pleased that the court clarified that doctors can provide patients with medically accurate, appropriate information.
