Florida to Hand Out More Hurricane Money

Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings says the Department of Community Affairs will be handing out an additional $83 million worth of supplemental housing grants to help rebuild communities that were hit hard by the hurricanes of 2005.

Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings says, “These are the dollars that will be coming to Florida for housing, as they have a little more flexibility in them than some of our housing dollars do. They go through the Department of Community Affairs, but again they’re going to be focused and targeted on those areas impacted by the hurricanes. And after two years, that’s just about all of us.”

Communities that were damaged by last year’s storms can apply for a share of the $83 million grant, which is being provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
