A deadly tornado struck early Thursday morning in south Georgia, taking lives and destroying homes.

The twister touched down just before five o'clock Thursday, devastating a small community in Camilla. The Mitchell County sheriff's office says there were five people killed.

Search and rescue teams continue to search for several people reported missing after the storm.

Between 150 and 175 homes were damaged by the tornado. There was also damage to several barns and to timber.

Several people suffered minor to severe injuries.

A tornado also touched down Thursday in Worth County, Georgia, killing two people.

The Camilla community is in the same area hit hard by three tornadoes on Valentine's Day 2000.
