The Community Foundation of North Florida is getting to the root of its mission.
The foundation is dedicating an oak tree at Lewis Park to represent $10 million raised in donations.
The grants go to local nonprofit organizations to support programs such as education, arts, environment and health care.
“Families and individuals give through the Community Foundation to their favorite charities, and we've been able due to the generosity of those donors and fund holders, we've been able to build over $10 million in primarily permanent assets for this community," said Joy Watkins.
The foundation says planting a tree represents permanence and future dedication to the community.
