Democrats are blasting Jeb Bush’s plan to cut millions of dollars from trust funds that go to pay for affordable housing.
The governor wants to use $94 million of trust fund money to help prop up the state budget.
A house committee is recommending cutting even more, $120 million. However, democrats opposed to the move say every dollar spent on affordable housing has a $7 impact on the state’s economy and Florida cannot afford to invest. They say the cuts will lead to the loss of nearly 15,000 jobs statewide.
The Senate does not want to cut as deeply into the trust fund as the house. Leon County stands to lose $1 million worth of affordable housing funds.
