Valdosta City School officials say effective immediately, students can bring cell phones into the classroom.

But the phones must be out of sight and turned off during school hours.

If a student is caught using one, the phone will be confiscated and the parents will have to pick it up.

Valdosta City Schools Superintendent Dr. Bill Cason says, "Kids have learned how to use them especially through texting each other, to cheat on tests, talk about drug sales."

Cason says the rule was made to give well-behaved students a chance to call their parents during after-school activities.
