Tallahassee Doctor May Lose License

Updated: Tue 4:08 PM, Mar 25, 2003

A Florida administrative hearing judge has recommended that the license of a Tallahassee doctor be revoked.

Dr. Kanwaljit Serai was accused in a sex-for-drugs scandal.

The case against Serai surrounded his treatment of five patients, including one described as being at a high risk for abusing a controlled substance. Yet, Serai wrote her numerous prescriptions for methadone. Serai was also accused of sexual misconduct with two of the five patients, although he disputed those allegations.

Court records also show Serai prescribed a self-proclaimed addict the highly addictive drug Vicodin without a sufficient exam or medical history. That person turned out to be an undercover Leon County Sheriff's Deputy. No word yet on whether Serai plans to appeal his license revocation.
