Leon County students have also scored well on the FCAT.
Superintendent Bill Montford says the district ranks second in the state in math and fifth in reading.
Montford credits teachers and parents for their hard work in helping kids turn the pages of academic success.
Bill Montford said, "Our students performed exceptionally well. As a matter of fact, over 80 percent of our kids scored at grade level or above level one. We had a significant reduction; 33 percent scored level one."
The governor said a record number of third grade students are reading at or above their levels. Schools in Madison and Gadsden Counties have all made gains in reading and math.
