SCHOOL CLOSURES UPDATE

Updated 8:00 p.m. 8/25/08:

As of right now all schools will be open tomorrow, Tuesday August 26th with the exception of:
Grady County
Statement from Grady County Schools:

"Grady County Schools will be closed for students Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday Aug 27. Unless unable to travel, faculty and staff should return Tuesday August 26. Based on information from the Grady County Emergency Management concerning road closures and uncertain stability of roads, school buses should not travel at this time."

ALSO Mitchell County Schools will be closed Tuesday August 26th for students and teachers. However, all 12-month personnel, custodian and maintenance staff and the Science Assessment Team or Subject Area Committee are expected to report for duty.

The Baconton Community Charter School will also be closed Tuesday August 26th.

Pelham City Schools will also be closed Tuesday for students only. All employees are asked to report to work.

Georgia Pines Decatur Seminole Service Center in Bainbridge wil be closed Tuesday August 26th.

Dick Howser Early Headstart Center in Quincy, Florida will be closed Tuesday August 26th.

The following information is from Bainbridgega.com:
Decatur County Schools will be out Tuesday the 26th. However all
principals, custodial workers and 12 month employees must report to work.

Kidshop Preschool is also closed Tuesday the 26th of August.

WCTV will have more information as it is made available but as of
8:00 p.m. Monday the 25th these are the only closings we are aware of.

Kidz Shoppe Pre-School in Cairo, GA

Grace Christian Academy in Bainbridge, GA

All Thomas County including the City of Thomasville schools will be closed for staff and students - Administrators say only maintenance, custodians, and 12-month employees should come to work today.

Seminole County

Grady County

Decatur County

Gadsden County

Miller County

Baker County

Leon County School officials say all Leon County schools will remain OPEN today.

FAMU, FSU, AND TCC will be open today as well.

The Brookwood School is OPEN Monday, August 25.

The Butler Mason YMCA Childcare in Thomasville will be OPEN Monday, August 25.

Jefferson County Schools will be OPEN tomorrow Monday, August 25.

Kidz Shoppe Pre-Schools at FWC will be closed Monday, August 25. 1400 South Broad Street, Cairo, GA.

Grady County schools will be closed Monday, August 25 due to flooding conditions.

Grady County School officials say all schools and offices will be closed to students and teachers tomorrow, Monday August 25.

No word yet on whether school will re-open Tuesday.

WCTV has received a number of calls asking about Leon County Schools. All Leon County schools will remain OPEN Monday, August 25.

Leon County School officials say all schools are up and running with electricity.

Superintendent Jackie Pons says transportation is set, but if children or teachers are unable to arrive to school due to high waters their absences will be excused.

It has just been reported by the Superintendent in Grady County, GA that ALL schools in that county are canceled for teachers and students on Monday, August 25th.

As of right now Leon County schools are still in session for tomorrow, but Jackie Pons, the Leon County School Superintendent and other officials are having an emergency management team meeting now to determine whether all the schools in the county have power.

Schools are scheduled to be open at their regular times.

Principals are checking to determine whether or not bus routes will be affected by flooding.

More information on school closures should be available in the next hour.
