The Valdosta-Lowndes County community will come together Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. for a Tribute to Family and Friends of Military Personnel.”
Thousands are expected to be at Drexel Park to show support for the men and women from Moody who are overseas. The event will start with a somber tone to honor the six airmen who died in Afghanistan, then it will pick up with live entertainment and free food. Organizers say the community made the event possible.
“Everybody just started wanting to help, whatever they can do, some people offered cash, a lot of people offering time to serve the Pepsi and everything else. It’s taken a life of it's own and I don't have to do a whole lot more except be here,” says organizer Scott James.
Hundreds of flags and yellow ribbons will be handed out at the event. This will be the first Support the Troops Rally in Valdosta since the war started.
