An explosion at Savannah's Imperial Sugar Plant earlier this year was Georgia's deadliest combustible dust accident in sixteen years.
Now, the state is trying to prevent it from happening again. State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine is touring local
agriculture businesses to identify possible problem areas with combustible dust.
John Oxendine, Georgia's Insurance Commissioner, says, "We want to make sure that all industries are safe in the state of Georgia. So, as the Safety Fire Commissioner, we are going and looking at different industries and seeing is there the possibility of a disaster like Imperial Sugar happening somewhere else?"
Oxendine says new regulations will require all industries that produce combustible dust in Georgia to draw up emergency plans... and train employees in evacuation techniques.
