Thirty years in the works, and finally a site has been selected for Tallahassee’s Performing Arts Center.
There were a few nervous minutes when it didn't look like the city commission was going to move forward with the Johns' site, which sits along Gaines Street. It's also the Performing Arts Center committee's preferred site.
Ultimately, in a three to two vote, the commission decided to go with the John's site. However, the work is far from over.
"What happens in this facility, that will be our first discussion, what is the function, what happens at the art center, it's education, it's art, it can be so much to so many people,” says Paula Smith of the Performing Arts Center committee.
A Performing Arts Center has taken decades to get this far; the original site location at the Civic Center died 30 years ago.
