Thomas County welcomes its first ever magnet program, which they hope will help prepare students for college.
Last Tuesday, the Thomasville City Board of Education voted to establish a college preparatory magnet program for grades 6-12.
The program will be known as the Thomasville City Scholars' Academy. Students who enter the program by the ninth grade will have the option to graduate from high school with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree.
"Students in grades 6th-8th will be dually enrolled in the academy, and at Macintyre Park Middle School. Students in grades 9-12 will be dually enrolled in the academy and Thomasville High School that will allow students to have access to extra curricular activities," says Dr. Dusty Kornegay, the director of the Scholars Academy.
Application packets will be available beginning Monday, May 15 and can be picked up from the city board office.
This program will not replace the college preparatory program already in place at Thomasville High School or the advanced courses at Macintyre Park Middle School.
