Georgia education is scoring big time as 20 school districts earn the title of "Outperformers."
The Standard and Poor's School Evaluation Services shows Thomas County made the list.
Most of the districts on the top 20 list are small and rural with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students.
Their achievements prove students can overcome an impoverished upbringing with solid district leadership and academic guidance.
"It's an honor for our school system. I think it’s a real tribute for our teachers who have worked very hard focusing on student learning and achievement, also a tribute to our parents and community partners," says Dr. Jean Quigg, the assistant superintendent of Thomas County Schools.
Also on the top 20 list is Decatur County.
