Leon County's Best and Brightest Awards

Leon County schools are honoring the best and brightest with their first ever award ceremony Thursday night.

Principals, counselors and teachers nominated 84 seniors from public and private high schools.

Students were selected for their work in several categories including art, math, science, and technology.

Andrew Pattison, first place in music, said, "This is just something in addition that's nice recognition, but the work with the young people and all the work I've done with the band has really been the main award.

Wendy Walters, first place in journalism, said, “It feels good to be recognized for some of my accomplishments, and also money for the college definitely helps out.”

First place winners in each category will receive a thousand dollar scholarship, with the runner-ups getting 500 bucks, and 250 for honorable mention.
