The sounds of music could be heard for miles in Jefferson County as residents celebrated the Annual Emancipation Day Parade.
This year, not a lot of groups participated in the annual tradition marking a significant time when slaves were freed.
The event began with law enforcement officials leading the way with the Howard Middle School's band members closely behind.
The emancipation proclamation was signed in 1863, but word did not reach slaves in this area until more than two years later.
