One by one, lobbyist earnings are being filed at the state's registration office this week. Though state employees are still sifting through reports from Florida’s estimated 2,000 lobbyists, some are already on file, such as the Tallahassee-based Southern Strategy Group, who reports more than a million dollars in earnings.
Lobbyists are getting very little sympathy around the Capitol City. A final push by lobbyists to keep their earnings private was blocked by a federal judge last week, but they say they won't give up. But lobbyists, for now, must comply with the filing law.
Lobbyists who didn't report their earnings by the Monday deadline can either apply for a one-time 30-day no-file period or they must pay a penalty.
