A new study shows there may be a looming shortage of primary care doctors in the near future.

A study done by the Journal of the American Medical Association shows only two percent of graduating medical students plan on practicing primary care internal medicine.

Experts say a big reason for this current trend is more students are opting for more lucrative specialties because of the hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt accumulated in medical school.

FSU Professor Dr. Daniel VanDurme says, "What's happening is more and more medical students are saying I would rather be a sub-specialist, get paid more and not have to deal with some of the hassle that a primary care doctor has to deal with."

Experts say more medical schools are promoting primary care internal medicine to their incoming students.

Think this is bad, just wait for Universal healthcare, if it happens.
