Suwannee County High School sophomore Angela Torelli has to cross Pinewood Way every afternoon after school. She says those few steps to her mother's truck can be scary.
A red light may not be an option but a yellow one is. In an effort to keep students safe, the school board has ordered flashing lights be mounted near the crosswalk between the high school and the Suwannee Hamilton Technical Center.
The district will also repaint the faded crosswalk lines to make them more visible to pedestrians and motorists. Some parents have even suggested speed bumps or bringing back a crossing guard.
The 20 mph speed limit on Pinewood Way, previously in effect during the beginning and end of the school day, has been extended throughout all school hours.
