Mayor's Meeting

Mayors from the largest cities in Florida told Gov. Jeb Bush they do not want to bear the burden from state budget cuts.

On Tuesday, mayors from St. Petersburg, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Hialeah, Orlando and Jacksonville went into Bush's office at the state capital to speak their concerns.

The tight budget is forcing lawmakers to consider shifting costs for some programs and services to local governments.

Rick Baker, St. Petersburg Mayor, said, "We think the governor has been pretty supportive so far of not shifting too much. We're going to work with the legislature to make sure they hold the line as well."
