FSU Faculty Denied Pay Raise

A special arbiter appointed by the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission recommended FSU faculty get an extra 1.5 percent merit raise for the rest of the year.

But FSU’s board of trustees dismissed the recommendation saying a wage package was already agreed to for this year.

Faculty members say the students are the ones truly hurt by this decision.

Jack Fiorito, FSU professor, said, "What they're allowing to happen is a lot of experienced instructors to leave FSU for better offers at other universities. In the process students are losing quality instruction. We're having to pay more money to hire new people than some of the people we're losing."

Faculty members may appeal the decision made by the trustees.
