Commissioners first want to find an interim administrator before hiring a permanent one.
Monday night's workshop centered around filling the temporary post with a county employee, or looking elsewhere.
Current Emergency Operations Manager Joe Blanchard appears to be a front runner, but one commissioner feels his law enforcement background could get in the way.
"He is the county administrator and he is the one that brings forward the budget. That’s part of his duty,” explains Howard Kessler, Wakulla County Commissioner.
"I don't think he could make decisions to the detriment of the rest of the county for the sheriff. The sheriff's budget is under pretty close scrutiny by a lot of people,” adds Wakulla County Commissioner Ed Brimner.
Commissioners plan to hold a special meeting next Wednesday to decide how exactly the interim position will be advertised.
