Man Confesses to Murdering Grandmother

There’s new information about a grandmother found murdered in her Lake City home.

Police say her live-in grandson, who's been missing since the day of the crime, has confessed to the murder.

Thirty-year-old John Newton Sands III is now under arrest and charged with first degree murder. Police say the day of the crime he was caught on camera cashing a check at a bank in Gainesville.

Now, more than a week later, Sands called police from a phone in Orlando to turn himself in.

Family and friends who live in Tallahassee said their final farewells to Thera Mae Sands this past weekend at funeral services in her hometown of Madison.
