Parents and Children's Day

It can be hard for some to grasp the reality of war, but it is especially hard for kids who know what's going on, but simply don't understand.

To escape the reality of war, many parents spent the afternoon at Tom Brown Park in Tallahassee for the First Parent's and Children's Day. While it was a chance to turn away from the coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom, it was also a perfect place and time for parents to answer some difficult questions.

"My son asked me why our troops are fighting this war and why are we after Iraq and what has he done to us," said parent Mandip Sachdeva.

Parents and Children’s Day provided the setting for parents to spend some quality time with their kids during this time of war.

The Florida Legislature in 2002 declared the first Sunday in April as Parents and Children’s Day.
