Tallahassee Address Numbers

It's something you may not notice until you need it, but missing address numbers on homes and businesses cost police and paramedics time every day.

Now the city of Tallahassee may make putting your address outside a must.

The city is considering an ordinance that would let home and business owners be cited if their building doesn't have the street address clearly displayed.

It's a simple step that could make a difference when an ambulance or officer is trying to find you in a hurry.

The ordinance would require home and business owners to post that address on the structure itself, not on a mailbox or curb.

If the ordinance is passed, there would likely be a 6-month grace period to let people voluntarily comply.

The city does not plan to cite people just for not having a number posted, but under the ordinance, it theoretically could.
