Saving Prepaid College

Tuitions Rise

In Florida, students and parents are trying to save the popular prepaid tuition program. They have sent lawmakers many emails and letters, begging them to help their cause.

Democrats draped pages of printouts of the e-mails and letter from a balcony in the capitol to show how many they are receiving.

They say the budget being pushed by House Republicans will leave the program in critical condition.

The Democrats are hoping their colleagues will save the program in the final version of the budget.

Parents have purchased more than 889,000 prepaid college contracts for their children.
