Renter's Rights for Students

Thousands of college students are getting ready to head home as the semester comes to an end. However, before they go, a neighborhood organization wants to meet with them. The groups says many of these students may be unaware they are victims of discrimination.

Leon County Housing Director Shelley Murphy said students would be shocked to the number of times renters are discriminated against by landlords. She sights differences in rent costs, lease agreements and also requiring cash only from certain tenants.

Jerrell Harris, an FSU grad student and intern at the Neighborhood Justice Center said while discrimination may be prevalent, taking action is not.

Two informational sessions for knowing your rights will be offered next week. For more information call (850) 488-7790.
