Davis Productivity Awards

State employees, whose innovative ideas and hard work saved Florida taxpayers a bundle, are saluted in Tallahassee.

The Davis Productivity Awards recognize state employees who collectively saved taxpayers $340 million last year.

Among the winners are a Department of Management Services employee who was brought out of retirement to scour the Suncom phone system and found $2.3 million in mistakes.

Ruby Wells, Davis Productivity Award winner, said, "These were phone lines the state had that had actually been disconnected. We had actually issued orders to the phone companies requesting that those lines be disconnected. The lines may have been disconnected, but the billing never stopped."

Wells got a $1,000 check for her efforts. Other award winners received between $250 and $2,500.

Florida TaxWatch teams up with Prudential and other sponsors to make these big fat "thank-yous" possible every year.
